National Finals @Leamington

Saturday 2nd August Men's Champion of Champions
Bob Marshall had a comfortable win today over George Wightman of Blackpool.
Unlike the Ladies this does not go onto Worthing. Later today he also plays in the Singles final, he has of course already qualified in this event.

Thursday 24th Mens Pairs
Tonight 8 year old Lewis Rimmer & ?? year old Shayne Rimmer were beaten by Keith Smith & Neil MacFarlane. In a game where the score fluctuated throughout. Both teams were level going into last end. Once again the jack was won and lost by both sides and finally, unfortunately for LEWIS his dad sent a weighted wood which pushed the opposition shot wood out but also took their own second shot wood out, leaving a relieved Keith and Neil the eventual winners.
What a challenge it was for Keith trying to contain a very good, enthusiastic young boy, with a great future ahead of him, a joy for all to see one so young being a true sportsman not just throughout the game but also in defeat. WELL DONE LEWIS

Saturday 19th
National Mixed Pairs Denise Moore and Shayne Rimmer went to Harrogate to play the couple from Yorkshire. A lovely journey down until the heavens opened, it eased off but the green was very wet and slippy 3 of the 4 fell and guess who didn't yes Shayne, after Denise's fall it was decided to to call it off until Monday. Alice Howling very kindly offered to play as a sub for Denise, and an excellent game ensued, sadly they lost by 1 shot.

Sunday 6th County Mixed Pairs

The weather as ever played its usual wet tricks but dispite this the event was played to conclusion and my goodness it even stopped raining for the final. The Finalists both from Southport were Denise Moore and Shayne Rimmer against Kitty Mulholland and Bob Marshall, Bob playing skip for a change. A close game with Denise and Shayne the delighted winners. This is the 3rd time they have won this event.
Sincerest thanks to those who popped in to help Jack and Anne in the kitchen between games, it was a very busy day.

Saturday 5th- Ladies Triples. Played on a very showery day, through to finals are Ruth Lance Denise Moore Margaret Marshall and Sandra Prescott Anne Ludlow Anne Mossman

Wednesday 2nd July- Congatulations to Bob Marshall who beat Bob Wood of Bolton in the County Singles at Southport, this now puts Bob through to Worthing, a dream come true for a very happy Bob. Our best wishes go with you Bob.

Sunday 29th- National Mixed Pairs @ 4pm after the Mens Robson Pairs, Shayne Rimmer @ Denise Moore Played Alex Atkinson @ Viv Tomlinson on what turned out to be a dry evening after all that rain during the day making the green heavy.
Alex @ Viv got away to a good start and it must be said that things were not looking good for the Southport Pair, but as ever games can be in 2 halves, Shayne and Denise began to pull back, it all came down to the last end with Shayne and Denise needing 2 to win, holding one, Shayne with a beautiful draw nudging the jack back a touch to make the 2 shots needed for a win. Wow now that was a close call. next round against a team from Yorkshire.

Well done ladies this of course now qualifies you all for the National Finals at leamington Spa, Ann and June have been before but this is a very exciting first time for Mary and Karin, we''ll be there in force to cheer you on.
Loosing in the first round this was to be I am sure not the only time they will get there.

Monday saw Southport's Pauline Hindley and skip Alice Howling play Bolton's Dorothy Counsell and skip Peggy Gill, a great game ensued on a lovely sunny afternoon with Southport's pair the winners. Both were, to say the least, over the moon, when they realised that this now takes them through to play at Leamington during the National Championships, especially as its their first outing in this event. New Members

2007 Club Holiday in Cyprus

The weather this year was as expected not as hot as last year, but never the less warm and sunnny for the most part of each day, we only bowled in the rain once, this was at the Aphrodite near Limasol. In spite of the date being changed, all the matches I had booked were not affected thank goodness, and all went according to plan.
Everyone enjoyed bowling against other clubs on the island and without exception they made us very welcome and hope to see us all again next year.
The holiday was overshadowed by 2 sad events.
On arrival Val Coldwell said to me, Den I have a bit of a pain in my chest, I lay her down on a settee and asked the staff to call a doctor, suspecting a heart attack, he whipped her off to the clinic, the good news, yes it was a heart attack, but within 10 days of Diagnosis she had an Angiogram and 3 Stents put in, she, it appears was a disaster waiting to happen, when we left Val was hail and hearty waiting with Eric to come home 3 days later.
The first Saturday, late evening Pat Brownlow, who has not been well for some time, callapsed and died instantly on her way to the bathroom, poor John, he was devastated. Everyone rallied round to support him throughout, especially Karin who took him under her wing.
The hotel cannot be faulted they were absolutely great, without a word moved John to another room, they were so concerned for his welfare.

So ended another holiday, If you are interested in organising the future hoildays please contact Denise. Margaret is unable to continue but happy to offer guidance.

England V Scotland

The almost end of season fun game, as ever a great afternoon with loads of laughs, with the usual Piper (John Nicol) marching on the Scotts, Land of Hope & Glory marching on the English.
A great added Attraction the Southport Airshow with the Red Arrows, even if a little distracting.

Great to see our juniors James, Louis & Sam joining in, though they must have thought some of us were mad as Hatters.
